SFIS Grant Summary

If you are a primary food producer in Northern Ireland with a Category 1 Farm Business ID, this scheme could help you invest in equipment that improves animal health, efficiency and environmental performance.

  • Applications Open: 21 July 2026
  • Applications Close: 3 September 2026
  • Grant rate: 40% of eligible investment costs.
  • Maximum grant: Up to £25,000 per farm business.
  • Eligible investment value: £3,000 to £62,500.
  • Minimum grant: You must apply for at least £1,200.
  • Grant offers are based on DAERA reference prices.

Who can apply?

  • You have a Category 1 Farm Business ID.
  • You are looking to invest in eligible equipment from the DAERA item list.
  • Your planned investment is likely to be at least £3,000.
  • You are ready to apply through the online scheme portal before the closing date.

  • Automatic weighing and drafting sheep crates.
  • Clamp-style sheep handlers.
  • Cattle auto ID drafting or shedding gates.
  • Cattle handling systems.
  • Manually operated cattle crushes.
  • EID panel readers.
  • Electronic weigh packages.
  • Auto-drench or vaccination guns.

How much could you get & how to apply?

The scheme can cover up to 40% of eligible costs, with a maximum grant of £25,000 per farm business. 

For example, if an eligible item has a DAERA reference price of £10,000, the grant support could be up to £4,000. If an eligible investment reaches the top threshold of £62,500, the maximum grant would be £25,000.

The exact grant amount is based on the DAERA reference price for each eligible item, not necessarily the retail price of the product.

How to Apply: 

Applications are completed through a simple online portal using a Government Gateway or indirect account login, where applicants answer a few basic farm and business questions and select the grant items they wish to apply for.
