Another round of FFIS funding is expected to open in Winter 2026
The Scottish Government has announced changes to the Future Farming Investment Scheme (FFIS) for 2026, with funding expected to open in December 2026. The new scheme will offer support for livestock handling equipment and other on-farm investments that improve productivity, efficiency, sustainability, and animal welfare.
FFIS 2026 Funding Overview
Under the proposed 2026 rules, eligible farmers and crofters can apply for:
- 50% funding towards eligible equipment and investments
- Maximum grant value of £20,000
- Available regardless of farm size
- Applications expected to open in Winter 2026
Some businesses may qualify for higher levels of support:
- New entrants to farming: Up to 80% of eligible costs
- Businesses in the Highlands and Islands: Up to 60% of eligible costs
- Items delivering environmental or nature benefits: Up to 100% of eligible costs
What's Changed for 2026?
The 2026 scheme introduces a new funding structure compared to the previous round:
- 50% funding standard rate
- £20,000 maximum grant regardless of farm size
The result is expected to be that approximately twice as many farmers and crofters can benefit from the funding available.
