Radio Remote Control

Radio Remote Control

The radio remote control is a compact design with large buttons for easy operation. The remote controls up to 6 functions including the two sorting gates, race sliding gates, crush sliding gate, parallel squeeze and headbail. The remote also allows you to switch from Auto to Manual control at any stage. The remote is ideal for catching cattle in the headbail with full proportional control.

Split Sliding Gate in the race

Split Sliding Gate in the race

The split race sliding gate is fully sheeted to provide a visual barrier. Powered by an air ram on top of the gate, it requires the operator to open and close (via the remote control) for each animal to enter, staggering the flow as they approach the automatic sorter. The compact design removes the overhead obstructions making for a safer work environment. No bottom track on the gate means that any build up of mud won’t affect the gate operating.

eRail Dual Gate EID reader

eRail Dual Gate EID reader

The patented Te Pari eRail ‘dual gate’ system is an EID antenna that is integrated into the Taurus side gate system. The eRail system provides a large read field ensuring all stock are read accurately, even those moving quickly or with their head down low. As the antenna is actually part of the steel gate, it is extremely robust and there are no visual or functional restrictions that can be caused by retrofitted panel readers. This means great visibility for manual headbailing or catching easy.

Auto Sorting

Auto Sorting

Easily weigh and sort your cattle automatically with the Taurus Auto Sorter. After the animal enters the cattle crush the rear sliding gate is closed, and the weighing cycle starts. When a stable weight is recorded the appropriate exit/sorting gate is automatically opened and the animal is released.

Parallel Squeeze

Parallel Squeeze

The Te Pari Squeeze System moves the side gates together to reduce the animal compartment from 750mm to 410mm and is operated with an easy-to-use powered lever. The Squeeze System moves the gates upwards on a vertical linkage helping provide support to the animal – ideal for calving. This system is excellent for weighing young stock as it helps prevent them turning around. The Squeeze System is also ideal for undertaking breeding procedures as it prevents unwanted animal movement.

Control Console

Control Console

The control panel at the rear of the crush is standard on all Taurus Crushes. This control panel allows you to mount your weigh scale at an ideal height. A lockable cover fits to the front of the control panel keeping the weigh scale and control units out of the weather and secured from theft. Also included in the control panel is a storage tray for your tools, tags and belongings, and a cupboard where the air regulators, EID reader control units, battery and the like are conveniently stored out of the way. The buttons control each function of the cattle crush in addition to the remote control.

Front Mounted Crush Controls

Front Mounted Crush Controls

Mounted at the front of the Taurus Crush by the headbail is a compact control box that allows the user to operate the headbail, parallel squeeze and crush sliding gate. This allows the user at the front of the crush full control of the functions and avoids the user from having to walk back to the control console at the rear. This feature also allows the operator with the remote control to be bringing cattle up the race and operating the race sliding gates separately.

HOW IT WORKS

HOW IT WORKS

The Taurus HD3 Auto Sorting Cattle Crush uses compressed air to open and close the entry and various exit gates.

1. Split Race Gate

To begin the process, the split race gate is opened via the remote control and the first animal enters.

2. Entering the Crush

The entry gate on the Taurus will open, letting the animal enter. Once inside, there are two sensors that let the crush know to close the entry gate, and another to begin the weigh cycle.

3. Weigh Cycle

Now the weight is taken, EID tag read and recorded to the scale along with any treatments given. The weigh scale then talks back to the crush to adjust the sort gates.

4. Exit via Sorting Gates

The sort gates automatically adjust and the headbail open, the animal can exit. An in-crush sensor will trigger once the animal has exited the crush, closing the headbail. A second sensor in the sort gate module will close the sort gate again once being cleared, avoiding congestion in the sort module. Once all sensors are cleared, the crush entry will re-open to begin the cycle again.

The Taurus Range

The Taurus Auto Sorting Cattle Crush is available in three configurations.

Crush Only

Crush Only

Sort Out of Crush

This configuration uses the side gates of the cattle crush as the sorting gates. Pneumatic rams open and close the side gates automatically. This suits situations that have limited length. The yard design for this set up needs to consider operator safety as the cattle could exit into the working area.

Crush with 3 Way Sort Module

Crush with 3 Way Sort Module

This configuration is called ‘in line sorting’. The cattle leave the crush and exit out sorting gates in front which automatically open and close. This configuration is very safe and efficient to use and it provides the fastest sequence time.

Crush with 5 Way Sort Module

Crush with 5 Way Sort Module

For bigger operations needing to sort more than 3 ways, the crush can be configured with a 5-way sorting module.

5 Reasons to own a Taurus Auto Sorting Cattle Crush

1

Reduce Labour

A Taurus Auto Sorting Crush can help with labour efficiency by reducing staff requirements in the yards. This also minimises human contact which reduces stock stress. Operator efficiency is increased, and staff skills are maximised, potentially reducing management costs by pre-setting drafting decisions in the office.

2

Identification

Identification is also made easier with accurate automatic reading of individual animal ID tags that can be read through mud, water and flesh. This assists in identifying low performing animals as well as the best performing farms and paddocks.

3

Stock Management

When used in conjunction with weigh scales and an EID reader a Taurus Auto Sorting System helps with stock management by automatically identifying animals for sorting based on weight, or other criteria such as treatments, sex, breeding info and farm location. Through enhanced stock monitoring, audits, better animal management and recorded data, the system has the ability to detect animal health issues quickly and efficiently which ultimately assists in maximizing farm profit and stock turnover.

4

Financial Benefits

Many livestock producers have proved that using EID readers in conjunction with an automatic sorting machine can provide significant financial benefit. The investment for an Taurus Auto Sorting Crush system on a per animal basis is small compared to the potential to realise more productivity from your operation.

5

Integration & Safety

The Taurus Auto Sorting Crush is easily integrated into existing stock handling facilities and is available in two configurations – sorting out of the crush side gates or using sorting gates in front of the crush. This system also provides the opportunity for a ‘cattle-free’ safe area in your cattle yard which creates a better, safer work environment, potentially enhancing staff retention and job satisfaction.

Is Auto-Sorting worth the investment?

Is Auto-Sorting worth the investment?

With an Auto-Sorting Crush you will process your cattle quicker and as a result will weigh more often. With a cycle time of aprox 10 seconds per animal it is realistic to weigh 300 head per hour with very little operator intervention. If you consider the cost of labour the ROI on a Auto-Sorting Cattle crush is very good. Plus you will weigh more often because it is so easy to do. This helps you manage your herd better and improve your on farm returns.
