History of Te Pari
Te Pari Products was established in 1980 by Pete French. Pete's father (Ted) developed a basic scissor action docking iron and Pete redesigned and refined the concept. The scissor action docking iron won a NZ Agricultural Fieldays Invention Award in 1980 and an Equipment Award in 1981. This docking iron became the flagship product for Te Pari.
The Company was awarded 6 other NZ Agricultural Fieldays accolades and 1 Australian National Fieldays award over the next 10 years for products developed "in house".
For over 17 years Pete and his wife operated Te Pari and significantly expanded the range of animal husbandry and handling products. In 1997 the Blampied family purchased Te Pari Products and continued to expand the product range.
Te Pari is the Maori word for "the cliff" or "the bluff" and was taken from the name of Pete's farm in the Manawatu and inrecognition of the birthplace of many of the ideas for the first products manufactured. Located in the Beaconsfield Valley (north of Feilding) and with the Kiwitea River running through it, the farm has a large bluff rising from the river. The Te Pari logo symbolises the sun rising over the bluff.
During 2002-2003 Te Pari relocated the entire manufacturing business from the North Island to Oamaru in North Otago of the South Island.
In 2004, Te Pari acquired the Donalds Woolpress manufacturing business and in 2011 strategically acquired the Racewell livestock equipment business.
Today Te Pari is still family owned and continues to expand. While New Zealand and Australia is our primary market many products go offshore to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Europe and even the Falkland Islands. The company now employs modern production methods including robotic welders and has a highly skilled sales and customer services team. We also stock a range of spare parts to ensure your equipment remains in top condition for years to come.
In 2013 Te Pari undertook a strategic brand review which resulted in refocusing on the key ‘Te Pari’ brand and the discontinuation of two product brands (Cattlemaster & Donalds). 2015 has seen the completion of the new Te Pari 4,400 square metre factory and office facility in Oamaru, shown below. Today the company is still in family ownership and continues to expand and build on it’s heritage of innovation and reliability.
